Let’s Get Started!

You can start at any time! New Zealand working holiday jobs are available throughout the year so you will always be able to start working as soon as you land. If you’re timing your trip for sunny climes, bear in mind that New Zealand enjoys four seasons, with the summer months landing between December and March – aka, Canada’s freezer time.

We typically ask for three month’s notice before you plan to leave Canada so you can make the most of our support preparing you for your adventure to New Zealand.

FAQs

What is the best time of year to visit New Zealand?

It really depends on what you would like to see! Although it is colder, the glaciers in the South Island are most impressive in winter (July and August). There are also some amazing ski resorts for ski bunnies and shredders on both the North and South Islands. Plus there is less competition for car hires and accommodation at this time of year. December and January are the warmest months, with beautiful weather for hiking and surfing. However, competition for resources is fierce and prices tend to increase significantly due to increased demand. At this time of year, you should plan ahead to ensure you don’t miss out.

How do I extend my visa?

The additional 11-month extension can be done online at any time before your initial visa expires. There is no need to undertake farm work in New Zealand and all Canadians are eligible. If you’d like help with this, speak to your Travel Coordinator for more information.

Do I need to have a return booked before I leave home?

You don’t need to have a return flight booked on a working holiday visa. If you do not have a return flight booked, you will need to show an additional $1000 in proof of funds to demonstrate that you will be able to purchase your flight home when the time comes. However, you do need to have a return flight booked if you plan to arrive on a visitor visa, so make sure to tell any friends or family who would like to come to visit for a week or two once you settle in.

What is Fergberger? I keep being told to go there

Almost every tourist who has ever been to New Zealand will have visited Fergberger, and everyone likes to recommend it! Fergberger is a hole-in-the-wall gourmet burger joint in Queenstown that offers legendary dining options. With a massive variety of unusual options to suit all dietary requirements (including vegetarian and gluten-free), this spot has previously been awarded the title of Best Burger in the World by CNN. With wait times of up to an hour and a half for takeout, it is best to call ahead with your order. Fergberger has become more of an experience for tourists than a meal, and almost everybody who visits Queenstown will form an opinion on this little shop.
