FAQs

How long does it take to get a working holiday visa for Spain?

Processing times can vary, but most Canadians will receive their Working Holiday Visa for Spain in around five to eight months after starting the complete process. Once your Working Holiday visa for Spain is approved, you will have 90 days to enter Spain and activate your work permit.

Can I apply for a Working Holiday for Spain if I don’t live in Canada?

No, it is a requirement that you are a current resident of Canada to be eligible to apply for a Working Holiday visa for Spain as a Canadian citizen.

Your supporting documents must be gathered and verified inside Canada, and you will need to submit your passport for processing while awaiting your visa decision. The Spanish Consulates in Canada are very strict with this requirement and may ask for additional documentation to prove your residency if they have any suspicion that you may not be residing in your home province.

Do I have to submit my Working Holiday visa application for Spain in person?

Yes if you apply on your own, but if you work with us at Stepabroad we will make it way easier for you!

Please note that Spain will request you to go in person to their Consulates in 2 different occasions:

  1. To apply for your NIE (Foreigner Identity Number)
  2. To apply for your Working Holiday Visa

Thanks to our Recognized Organization (RO) status designated by International Experience Canada (IEC), Stepabroad works directly with the Toronto Consulate for Spain that allows us to verify documentation through an authorized representative.

Participants living in Ontario (excluding the National Capital Region), Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories or Nunavut will be able to complete their applications without attending an in-person appointment, as we will be supporting you in this process!

This is not yet possible for residents of other provinces, who will need to visit either the Montreal Consulate or Ottawa Embassy from Spain to complete their Working Holiday visa submission.

Is it hard to be approved a Working Holiday Visa for Spain as a Canadian?

Is not hard to be approved as long as you submit everything properly. Let’s say what is complicated is the actual working holiday application process.

Do you need to speak Spanish to work in Spain with a Working Holiday Visa?

Speaking Spanish is not a requirement for Canadians to apply for a Working Holiday visa for Spain. Most of our participants use the Working Holiday visa under the Youth Mobility Agreement to improve their Spanish level, while working to pay their expenses.

What's the difference between Youth Mobility Visa and Working Holiday for Spain?

No difference. A Spain Working Holiday Visa, is also known as a Youth Mobility Visa for Spain. Two different terms for the same program. A program that allows Canadian youth between 18 and 35 years old to live and work in Spain for 12 months. No job offer is required.

Is the NIE and the Youth Mobility Visa for Spain the same?

Not at all! Depending on the Consulate that will help you with your application, might need to apply for your NIE or the Foreigner Identity Number (in person process) before being allowed to apply for your Youth Mobility Visa (also in person process).

For example, this is the case for the Consular jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Spain in Toronto, that supports participants from Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario (except the city of Ottawa and the National Capital Region), Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut.
