FAQs

How much do you recommend I have saved before I depart?

You will need to show a bank statement with a minimum balance of $3,500 CAD as part of your visa application, and round trip tickets to Tokyo generally range between $800-1,500 CAD as a rough estimate. The rest depends a lot on your lifestyle! A sharehouse in Tokyo will run you $500-900 CAD in monthly rent, with private apartments running higher. Cities outside of Tokyo are more budget-friendly!

Is the Japan Working Holiday Visa valid for six months or one year?

You may stay in Japan for up to one full year. You will be given a six-month residence permit upon arrival to Japan, and then will need to apply for an extension to be granted the additional six months.

Where do I have to submit my Japan Working Holiday Visa application?

You will need to submit your application in person at the Japanese consulate covering your jurisdiction. Japanese consulates are located in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal. The Japanese embassy is located in Ottawa.
