UK Working Holiday

Energetic cities, outstanding festivals, fairy-tale castles, vibrant culture and the arts. What’s not to love? Stepabroad’s UK Working Holiday Programs help Canadians kick-start their experience living and working in the UK.

Why do a Working Holiday in the UK

A working holiday in the UK lets you experience the best Europe has to offer at your own pace. Attend a world-famous music festival, drink Butterbeer at Hogwarts, ride the rollercoaster on the Brighton Pier, or seek out film locations from Game of Thrones. Perhaps you’ll learn about your family history, or experience living in alluring London.

Whichever the case, basing yourself on this fascinating continent gives you the opportunity to explore so many different cultures and bucket-list destinations. As an English-speaking country, it’s easy to get oriented in your new home which draws people from all over the world. You’ll build a network of international friends and make memories to last a lifetime.

FAQs

Can I bring my pet with me?

It is possible to bring a pet with you to the UK, however, it is a costly and time-consuming process that you will need to budget for. This is not something that Stepabroad will be able to help with, however, there are many pet relocation services available that would be able to advise you further.

What is the NHS and why is the healthcare fee so expensive?

The National Health Service provides free healthcare to all residents living in the UK. To prevent this service from being abused, every immigrant must pay an Immigration Healthcare Surcharge to cover the full duration of their visa (2 years initially followed by an optional 1-year extension). The amount is fixed at £1,550 for every Youth Mobility Scheme visa applicant in 2024 and is calculated based on the average amount of money an individual on this visa costs the NHS during their stay. If you decide to apply to extend your stay an additional year of coverage is also required costing £780.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to only pay for 1 year’s worth of IHS surcharge. Every applicant must pay the full fee for the first 2 years.

Is the process different for each country? Can I live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland?

Once you have been approved for the Youth Mobility Scheme Visa, you can live in any of the four countries that make up the UK. The process is the same regardless of where you decide to live, and you can move between the countries as you please for the duration of your stay.
