Let’s Get Started!

You can start at any time! New Zealand working holiday jobs are available throughout the year so you will always be able to start working as soon as you land. If you’re timing your trip for sunny climes, bear in mind that New Zealand enjoys four seasons, with the summer months landing between December and March – aka, Canada’s freezer time.

We typically ask for three month’s notice before you plan to leave Canada so you can make the most of our support preparing you for your adventure to New Zealand.

FAQs

How does Stepabroad guide me through the New Zealand process?

With Stepabroad, you’ll have a dedicated travel coordinator who has experienced the New Zealand Working Holiday firsthand. They’ll help review your documents before submission, craft a standout resume tailored to New Zealand employers, and provide valuable resources to prepare you for your WHV New Zealand.

We’ll also guide you in finding both short- and long-term accommodations, job hunting strategies, setting up your bank account (before you arrive!), and share local tips so you land in New Zealand fully prepared and free of surprises.

Do I have to stay in New Zealand for the full 12-23 months?

Not at all! With the New Zealand Working Holiday Visa, you choose how long you stay—whether it’s 3, 6, 9 months or the full duration of your visa.

Many participants who plan for shorter stays end up staying longer because they’re loving their experience so much!

Do I need savings before traveling to New Zealand?

Yes, New Zealand Immigration requires proof of at least 4,200 NZD (approximately 3,700 CAD) as part of your application to show you can support yourself during your first few weeks.

Saving more than the minimum can ease financial stress and even allow you to start exploring New Zealand as soon as you land.

Will Stepabroad still provide support when I am in New Zealand?

Yes! Our support continues after you arrive in New Zealand. If you have questions, we’re just an email away. Keep in mind, we’re based in Vancouver, so there may be a slight delay in response due to time zones.

For extra on-the-ground support, consider our Discovery and Adventure Programs, which include access to an in-country team.

Does the Send Off Program include job and living support?

Yes! Our Send Off Program is designed to fully prepare you for your New Zealand Working Holiday adventure. You’ll gain access to job resources across various industries and detailed guides on where to live in New Zealand and how to get started.

Plus, you’ll have your own travel coordinator to answer questions and provide personalized assistance throughout the process.

What kind of jobs do backpackers do in New Zealand?

The New Zealand Working Holiday Visa allows you to work in a wide range of roles, as long as you don’t accept a permanent contract.

Opportunities range from working at ski resorts, stargazing tours, and zipline guiding to hospitality, farm work, and even career-enhancing roles. Whether you want to try something new or gain professional experience, the choice is yours!

I’m based outside of Canada. Can I still apply for the New Zealand Working Holiday Visa with Stepabroad?

Yes! As long as you are a Canadian citizen aged 18-35 (inclusive) and meet the visa requirements, we can help you get started on your New Zealand Working Holiday adventure.

Simply fill out our application form, and a travel coordinator will be in touch to assist you!
